The head of the bed should be six inches more elevated than the bottom of the bed. By elevating your chest and head, you prevent stomach acid from traveling upward to your esophagus.
Do not lie down immediately after you have eaten. That’s because lying down after a meal can make digestion more difficult, resulting in acid reflux. By staying upright, you can avoid acid from going into your esophagus.

Engage in moderate, upright exercise, like taking a long walk. Walking is ideal for improving acid reflux symptoms. First of all, you aid your stomach in digestion when you are upright. Exercising also promotes weight loss which will help your acid reflux. Even though you should do moderate exercise, avoid extreme exercise because this may worsen your acid reflux rather than reduce it.
Drink only between meals. When your stomach is full of food and liquid, the lower esophageal sphincter is under constant pressure. When this happens, the stomach acids and foods you have just eaten may move back into your esophagus, causing damage and pain.
Steer clear of your most potent trigger foods for reflux. There are some foods that are known to trigger acid reflux. Some examples of these foods are spicy, fried or fatty, citrus fruits, caffeine, alcohol, mints or items that have mint flavoring, tomatoes, onions, garlic and carbonated beverages. There are different triggers for each person, so find your trouble spots and stay away from them.
You should consume less beverages during your meals. Drink while eating results in added pressure to the stomach. This leads to acid reflux. Take small sips of water when you eat, and drink full glasses between meals.
